Pulse propagation near zero group-velocity dispersion in a femtosecond dye laser.
The propagation of femtosecond pulses in a colliding-pulse mode-locked dye laser near zero group-velocity dispersion is studied. The pulse spectrum is shown to exhibit a double-peak structure. This structure and its dependence on the intracavity dispersion can be explained by nonlinear pulse propagation near zero dispersion. A value for the third-order dispersion of the laser cavity is deduced ...
متن کاملDispersion-managed soliton in optical fibers with zero average dispersion.
A dispersion-managed optical system with stepwise periodic variation of dispersion is studied in the framework of a path-averaged Gabitov-Turitsyn equation. The soliton solution is obtained by means of iterating the path-averaged equation. The dependence of soliton parameters on dispersion map strength is investigated, together with the oscillating tails of the soliton.
متن کاملMicro-resonator soliton generated directly with a diode laser
An external-cavity diode laser is reported with ultralow noise, high power coupled to a fiber, and fast tunability. These characteristics enable the generation of an optical frequency comb in a silica micro-resonator with a single-soliton state. Neither an optical modulator nor an amplifier was used in the experiment. This demonstration greatly simplifies the soliton generation setup and repres...
متن کاملA near-zero velocity dispersion stellar component in the Canes Venatici dwarf spheroidal galaxy
We present a spectroscopic survey of the newly discovered Canes Venatici dwarf galaxy using the Keck/DEIMOS spectrograph. Two stellar populations of distinct kinematics are found to be present in this galaxy: an extended, metal-poor component, of half-light radius 7.8+2.4 −2.1 arcmin, which has a velocity dispersion of 13.9+3.2 −2.5 km s −1, and a more concentrated (half-light radius 3.6+1.1 −0...
متن کاملDynamics of Raman soliton during supercontinuum generation near the zero-dispersion wavelength of optical fibers.
We observe unique dynamics of Raman soliton during supercontinuum process when an input pulse experiences initially normal group-velocity dispersion with a negative dispersion slope. In this situation, the blue components of the spectrum form a Raman soliton that moves faster than the input pulse and eventually decelerates because of Raman-induced frequency downshifting. In the time domain, the...
